Synthetic Oil: A Pointless Upsell, or Invaluable Advantage?

In a nationwide survey, almost half of American drivers say they are not sure that synthetic motor oil is any better for their engine than conventional oil, which is significantly cheaper. In fact, many survey respondents said they believe synthetic oil is a needless up-sell by greedy repair facilities—which makes sense, since more than half of American drivers don't trust service centers.

When it comes to paying a little extra for synthetic oil, however, the advantage is clear.

In a recent series of tests conducted by AAA, synthetic oil offered far more protection than conventional oil in:

  • Shear stability
  • Deposit formation
  • Volatility
  • Flow in extreme cold
  • Oxidation resistance
  • Maintaining viscosity over time

Synthetic oil is so superior, it's no wonder 83 percent of mechanics use it in their own vehicles. If you plan on keeping your car around for a long time, synthetic oil will help your engine last. It's also recommended for drivers who spend a lot of time in stop-and-go traffic, extreme cold or hot temperatures.

Next time you get your oil changed at Mountain Home Auto Ranch, be sure to ask for synthetic!
